Winner - Andrew Weiss
Congratulations, Andrew Weiss, of Medicine Hat. Andrew
is currently attending the University of Alberta enrolled
in a General Science Program. He plans to use this program
for entrance into the Faculty of Medicine and eventually
practice Medicine as a Radiologist. Andrews' extracurricular
activities are numerous; at the University he is a member
of Farmhouse Fraternity, a member of Safewalk and of the
U of A fencing club. He has had a successful history with
fencing, winning gold medals at Alberta Junior Provincials
and brought home a bronze medal from the 1999 Canada Winter
Games. Andrew trained and shown several Angus steers during
his time with the Medicine Hat 4-H beef club, for which he
held positions of President and Parliamentarian. During September
2001, he was one of 20 4-H members selected to participate
in a private forum with the governor General in Medicine
Hat. This led to his invitation to the Governor Generals'
Youth Forum in February 2002 at which he was an active participant.
During junior and senior high, Andrew was very active with
his schools' debate club and competed at four provincial
championships. Andrew is a skilled orator and so, was the
emcee at district colour night, as well, as, his high school
graduation ceremonies. Currently, Andrew is a member of the
TUXIS youth parliament of Alberta, with which he has held
the positions of Opposition whip. Deputy Minister of External
Affairs and Public Relations, Deputy Minister of Social Action
and currently holds the position of Minister of Publications.
Andrew is also an active member of the United Church of Canada.
Despite Andrews' many commitments he is dedicated to his
studies and so has managed to maintain a solid academic average.

for doing me the honour of choosing me as the 2002 recipient
of the Dorothy Banks Memorial Scholarship. Apart from the
honour itself, this award will help me to achieve my goals.
